ASTM D256 Izod and Charpy Pendulum Impact Tester with
LCD for non–metallic materials
Model: XJC-5, XJC-5D
Overview:
XJC Pendulum Impact Tester is used to test the anti-impact intensity both in izod and charpy of engineering plastics, glass-steel, ceramics, casting stone, plastic wiring, insulating material, plastic pipe material and other non –metallic materials.
It has electronic controlling system which is much easier operated and the test result is calculated automatically.
Izod impact testing is an ASTM standard method of determining the impact resistance of materials. A pivoting arm is raised to a specific height (constant potential energy) and then released. The arm swings down hitting a notchedsample, breaking the specimen. The energy absorbed by the sample is calculated from the height the arm swings to after hitting the sample. A notched sample is generally used to determine impact energy and notch sensitivity.
The Charpy impact test, also known as the Charpy V-notch test, is a standardized high strain-rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture. This absorbed energy is a measure of a given material's notch toughness and acts as a tool to study temperature-dependent ductile-brittle transition. It is widely applied in industry, since it is easy to prepare and conduct and results can be obtained quickly and cheaply. A disadvantage is that some results are only comparative.
Standards:
1, DIN 53453 Testing of Plastics Impact Flexural Test, The purpose of the impact flexural test is to ascertain the behaviour of specified test specimens under defined conditions of impact flexural loading, and to assess the toughness or brittleness within the limits set by the test conditions.
2, ASTM D256 - 10 Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance of Plastics
3, ISO 179-1:2010 Plastics -- Determination of Charpy impact properties -- Part 1: Non-instrumented impact test
4, ISO 180:2000 Plastics -- Determination of Izod impact strength
